Preamble
There is a large and growing interest in electronic payments, particularly in the context of the
Internet. There are numerous and varied organizations involved in diverse aspects of electronic payments, including technology, business, regulatory, and legal.
There is a need for coordination of these efforts to assure identification and satisfactory resolution of issues,
including such items as identification of a reference architecture and external interfaces, thereby leading to an interoperable payment system supporting the evolution of the electronic commerce environment.
EPF Mission
The Electronic Payments Forum (EPF) is an alliance of organizations such as consortia and standards bodies, as well as commercial entities, non-profits, universities, and government agencies, committed to furthering the development of inter-operable electronic payment systems in support of global electronic commerce. The EPF will provide a forum for collaboration on electronic payment related topics through information exchange and discussion of progress, ideas, and issues, and will facilitate the identification and resolution of such issues requiring the involvement of multiple organizations.
The EPF will carry out its mission by:
- Promoting information exchange (e.g. by hosting a World Wide Web site)
- Encouraging open discussion of issues (e.g. by maintaining mailing lists)
- Holding meetings to identify and discuss issues and to publicize results of its constituent organizations
- Facilitating multi-organization activities where appropriate to resolve issues in interoperability
- Developing and disseminating white papers where appropriate on topics such as open reference models and security considerations.
